Girls Getaway!

Kim and I went on our annual girls getaway vacation last week. We headed west for the first time this year. Since we have hundreds of pictures of us standing in front of every plantatation and azalea bush in the South, we decided we needed snow pictures this year so we headed for the mountains of New Mexico.

We stayed at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidosa, New Mexico. It was a beautiful hotel. This was the view from the balcony of our upgraded deluxe suite!

Ruidosa is a pretty town with lots of little shops and Friday we slept late and then explored the town. In the afternoon, we treated ourselves to a facial and massages.

On Saturday we headed up the mountain to Ski Apache. These photos were taken along the road up to the ski resort.

Skiing was quite the adventure! Kim hadn't skiied in about 7 years so it was a challenge! There was a lot of snow and a lot of people there! We, of course, stopped every stranger we could find to take our picture to document our experience!

Despite the fact that we had driven 10 hours to get there on Friday and would be driving back 10 hours on Sunday (13 hours for Kim), we decided to take a road trip on Sunday. We drove to White Sands, New Mexico to see the sand dunes. It was amazing. These pictures are taken in the sand, not snow. Being a kid at heart (and knowing it would make for some cute pictures), Kim bought a sled at the gift shop so we could slide down the sand dunes.

On the way back to Ruidosa, we drove up a little mountain road to a town called Cloudcroft. It was a beautiful drive and a charming town. We did a little shopping there before taking another mountain road back to Ruidosa. It was a fun day!
That evening, we dressed up a little and went to the Casino to lose more money.

On Monday we headed for home. Most people probably wouldn't have enjoyed driving 20 hours for a few days away but we had a blast.
Meanwhile back in Texas, Vivian had a grand time with her Pawpaw. He took her to see a play, Jack in the Beanstalk which she loved. On Sunday, he took her to the mall and to Trader's Village where they spent most of the day. Rick casually mentioned that he dressed her in her blue Arial outfit. Well, her blue Arial outfit is her pajamas!!! He said he thought it was a lounging outfit. LOL! So Vivian paraded around town on Sunday in her best pajamas! LOL! But he did at least put a bow in her hair. I wish I had a picture of that!
It was a great vacation with my dear friend, and more pictures and memories to add to our 23 years of friendship!
