Our little cowgirl

I took these pictures yesterday of Vivian and Rick riding Casey. She loves to ride horses with her grandpa. Rick started trotting Casey and Vivian just laughed and laughed. I managed to capture these pictures, the expression on her face is just priceless. Grandpa is already talking new saddle, new horse...

Mom found my first pair of cowboy boots and brought them to my house for Vivian. Can't wait to get a picture of her on the horse in her boots. I've also got to find a pink cowboy hat!

Vivian at the zoo

We took Vivian to the zoo a couple of weekends ago. The weather was beautiful and we had a really nice day.

Branson, Missouri

Rick and I went to Branson, Missouri last weekend. We had a great time. We missed Vivian but it was nice to be away by ourselves too. We drove out to Table Rock Lake outside Branson and I got some beautiful sunset pictures on the lake.

Elvis Lives!

Elvis is alive and well and living in Branson, Missouri! We went to an Elvis impersonator show while in Branson. He was really good. I forget how much I love Elvis' music, I need to go out and find a good Elvis CD.

I went on stage while he was singing Love Me Tender and had my picture made. Always looking for a good scrapbook page!

Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial

One of the highlights of our trip was our visit to the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial. I highly recommend it although go when you have lots of time and lots of tissues. It was very emotional. The picture below is one of the outdoor memorials. There is a chair for each of the individuals killed in the bombing. The chair is in the approximate location of where they were in the building. It was very moving.

Vivian's first steps

Vivian walked for the first time on Friday, May 6, 2005. Friday evening, I picked her up from daycare and had her in the bathroom with me while I was changing clothes. I walked out of the bathroom to hang clothes in the closet. When I turned around, she was walking across the floor toward me! I started screaming and jumping up and down so of course she sat down. But then I took her in the kitchen and she walked for Ryan. When Rick got home, she walked across the driveway to meet him.

The picture is from later that evening. She was with her Papaw in the round pen and he put her down and she started walking across the round pen. I had my camera so managed to grab a few pictures. And yes mom, I also got her on videotape last night.

I am so excited that I get to be a part of all these new experiences with her. As Rick and I watched her toddle across the driveway we looked at each other and said "Our life just changed again." Our days of leisure are definately over for now, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

My Grandmother's rose bush

In February 1994, my grandmother passed away suddenly. She was only 74 years old and in great health. We were very close and it was a very difficult time for me and my mom. We still miss her very much.

After she died, I dug up a rose bush from her yard and planted at my house. The next year, we sold our house. We weren't sure where we were moving so I put it in the contract that I could come back and dig up the rose bush. We ended up divorcing and I lived in a rental for 9 months before finding a house I liked and bought.

So, in 1997, 2 years after we sold our house, mom and I went knocking on these people's door, shovel in hand, to dig up Rossie's rose bush. They looked at us like we were crazy, but allowed us to dig it up. We were in my car and the bush had grown tremendously but I wouldn't let my mom trim any of it. It is a rambling rose bush so there were branches sticking out the windows as we drove. We planted it at my new little house and it thrived. I think I have a picture of it there somewhere which I will try to find and post.

But, of course, the journey of Rossie's rose does not end there. In 1999 I met Rick, and we got married in February 2000. I sold my house and once again, had it written in the contract that I could come back and get my rose bush. Rick and I bought a house in July 2000, but both of us knew it wouldn't be the place that we stayed. We loved the house but hated the location and continued to look for our dream home.

In May 2003 we found our perfect house. In 2004, trusty shovel in hand, I once again went to retrieve Rossie's rose bush. It was massive! I don't know why I didn't think to take a picture of it before we moved it because it was huge and we had to cut a lot of it down to move it.

Once again, it survived the move and here it is below, 11 years later, in it's final resting place. I think Rossie would be proud that it is finally at home where it belongs, as am I.

States I have visited

I saw this on another blog and thought it was really cool. It's a map that indicates all the states I have visited. Since one of the projects on my life list is to visit all states that I can drive to (Ha! Since I don't like to fly), I thought I'd put this on here and then update it as I achieve my goal. In two weeks Rick and I will be going to Branson, Missouri for a few days so I'll be able to add 2 more states, Oklahoma and Missouri. I can't believe I've never been to Oklahoma which is about an hour's drive away.

5/25/05 - Edited to add Oklahoma and Missouri after our Branson trip last weekend.

Trying pictures this time

Let's see if I can figure out how to get some pics on here.

We'll see if that works. Yea, it did, not the clearest pic, but I love this one of Rick and Vivian from when we took her to Glen Rose Animal Drive Through park. We need to take her again now that she is a little older and will enjoy it more!

First Blog Post

Hi. I'm just testing this out, seeing if I can figure out how this thing is going to work. On my favorite website, twopeasinabucket.com, lots of folks have blogs and I thought they were really cool so I thought I'd start one of my own, mainly as a way to share pictures with my family and keep everyone updated on the events in our life. More later, want to see how this works!
